Magallanes and Cobreloa Awarded Victories After Santiago Morning Sanctioned for Unauthorized Coaching

Primera B clubs Magallanes and Cobreloa have been declared winners in their matches against Santiago Morning after the ANFP Disciplinary Court found the capital club in violation of league regulations regarding unauthorized coaching personnel.

Santiago, Chile – In a stunning turn of events on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the First Chamber of the ANFP Disciplinary Court ruled in favor of Magallanes and Cobreloa, awarding them victories against Santiago Morning in their respective Primera B contests. The decision stems from allegations that Santiago Morning improperly utilized its sports manager, Esteban Paredes, as a coach without the necessary authorization.

According to the court’s findings, Santiago Morning will forfeit both matches with a score of 3-0 in favor of their opponents. Furthermore, the club has been levied a fine of 250 Unidades de Fomento (UF) – a Chilean unit of account – for each game in which the infraction was verified.

“The sanction is in accordance with the provisions of article 51 of the Bases of the First B National Championship, Season 2025,” a senior court official stated.

The ruling throws Santiago Morning’s season into further turmoil as the club now faces the potential loss of six points. The team is currently battling to avoid relegation to the Second Division and is simultaneously awaiting a decision from the Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte (TAS) – the Court of Arbitration for Sport – regarding nine points previously deducted due to earlier administrative issues.

The controversy centers around the role of Esteban Paredes, a former player and current sports manager for Santiago Morning. Opposing teams alleged that Paredes was acting as a coach during matches, a role he was not authorized to fulfill under ANFP regulations. The Disciplinary Court agreed, finding that Santiago Morning had violated league rules.

Santiago Morning now has the option to appeal the decision to the Second Chamber of the Court in an attempt to overturn the ruling and avoid the point deduction. However, the club faces an uphill battle as it simultaneously navigates its ongoing dispute with TAS. The outcome of these legal challenges will significantly impact Santiago Morning’s chances of remaining in Primera B for the 2026 season.
