Harry Maguire is going through a difficult time. The captain of Manchester United lost his place in the 11 of Erik ten Haag in light of his disappointing performances at the beginning of the season, while in the England team he is still favored by coach Gareth Southgate, but not by the crowd. Tonight (Monday) in the game of the disappointing Three Lions team against Germany in the League of Nations, the stopper received loud boos from the crowd at Wembley.
This happened when the announcer called Maguire’s name when he announced the starting 11 on the English side, while the home crowd was not left behind and expressed its anger in a clear and unambiguous way.
The former commentator and player, Joe Cole, actually praised Southgate for expressing confidence in Maguire when he said: “This is the big story. In doing so, Southgate says it is not a disaster with Maguire starting at the World Cup. In the last game (of the Nations League) you want a backbone. This is a good expression of confidence.”
