Maharashtra police apprehend suspect involved in Kerala train fire mishap

A suspect connected to the incident where a passenger poured petrol on fellow passengers and set them on fire on an Alappuzha – Kannur express train in Kerala has been arrested. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Police and Central Intelligence Officers worked together on the operation and the suspect was apprehended in Ratnagiri. The suspect will be handed over to Kerala Police soon. The incident occurred when the train reached Elathur railway station at 9:30 pm on Sunday. The passengers immediately stopped the train after the incident occurred. Three members of the same family were found dead 100 meters away from the incident site. A sketch of the suspect was released based on CCTV footage.

Pune: It has been reported that a joint team consisting of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Police and Central Intelligence Officers has arrested the suspect in connection with the incident in which a suspect suddenly poured petrol on his fellow passengers and set them on fire on a train running in Kerala. It seems that he was arrested in Ratnagiri and will soon be handed over to the Kerala Police.

Alappuzha – Kannur express train was running from Kozhikode railway station in Kerala state on Sunday. At 9.30 pm, the train reached Elathur railway station, Kozhikode district. At that time, the mysterious person who was traveling in D1 compartment of the train suddenly poured the petrol he had brought on the passengers and set them on fire. At that time, the clothes of some of the passengers caught fire due to petrol. Seeing it, other passengers immediately grabbed the danger chain and stopped the train.

The suspect jumped out and fled. By then the passengers extinguished the fire and informed the railway police. Railway police and forensic experts rushed in. Then, they seized a bag lying on the rail. Another bottle of petrol and 2 mobile phones were found in it. The police are investigating whether the bag belongs to the absconding suspect.

Meanwhile, 100 meters away from the incident site, the dead bodies of 3 people, a boy and a girl, were found from the railway track. The deceased have been identified as Taufiq and Rehana. All three belong to the same family. Police suspect that they may have jumped out of the train to escape the fire that spread in the T1 compartment. Meanwhile, 8 injured passengers have been admitted to hospitals.

A sketch of the suspect has been drawn and released based on CCTV footage. A team rushed to Maharashtra while the police were searching for it. In this context, the suspect was arrested in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
