Mahtomedi High School’s swim team is poised for a strong showing at the state meet after a remarkable performance at the Section 4A competition held Friday and Saturday, securing qualifications in seven events and finishing as the team runner-up. The Zephyrs demonstrated both individual brilliance and relay strength, setting the stage for an exciting state championship.
Section 4A Results: A team Effort
The Mahtomedi swim program showcased its depth and talent throughout the Section 4A meet. the team finished with 359 points, trailing only Visitation’s 487, with Hastings (300 points) and Mounds Park Academy (288 points) rounding out the top four teams among ten competitors. This strong showing underscores the program’s consistent success and dedication to excellence.
Relay Dominance Fuels State Qualification
Mahtomedi’s relay teams were notably notable.The 200 freestyle relay team, comprised of Maddie Ruppel, Delaney Dumermuth, Addy Miller, and Abby Wright, claimed first place with a winning time of 1:40.59.The 400 freestyle relay team of Aria Armstrong,delaney Dumermuth,Addy Miller,and Abby Wright followed closely,securing second place in 3:39.53. These performances highlight the team’s ability to work cohesively and deliver under pressure.
Individual Stars Shine Brightly
Beyond the relays, several individual swimmers distinguished themselves. Abby Wright, a junior, qualified for the state meet in both the 100 freestyle (54.33) and 200 freestyle (1:58.75), earning second-place finishes in both events. Shae Murphy, a sophomore, secured her state berth in diving, achieving a second-place score of 381.45 points.
Eighth-grader Aria Armstrong demonstrated exceptional promise, qualifying for state by standard in both the individual medley (2:12.83, fourth place) and the butterfly (1:00.28, sixth place). These performances from younger athletes signal a radiant future for the Mahtomedi swim program.

Several other Mahtomedi swimmers reached the finals, further demonstrating the program’s overall strength.The medley team of Riley Parizek, Lena Granovsky, Aria Armstrong, and Delaney Dumermuth finished third in 1:54.18.
