Carlo Ancelotti is the top choice to become the next manager of Manchester United, according to former Red Devil Gary Neville. The news comes as the club searches for a permanent replacement to steer them back to prominence.
Neville Outlines Four Key Qualities for United’s Next Boss
Neville, a prominent pundit and Manchester United icon, has laid out four crucial conditions the next manager must fulfill: strong media skills, experience leading a team of stars, a deep understanding of the Premier League, and a commitment to Manchester United’s attacking traditions and youth development.
“The best candidate who satisfies all four of these criteria is Ancelotti,” Neville emphasized. He even suggested that a potential delay in Ancelotti’s availability, due to his current role with the Brazilian national team and their potential run in the World Cup finals, would be a worthwhile wait.

While Ancelotti leads the pack, Thomas Tuchel and Eddie Howe were identified as Neville’s second and third choices, respectively.
Neville explained that both Tuchel and Howe possess strong Premier League experience and a proven track record in the Champions League. He specifically highlighted Tuchel’s Champions League title, as well as his success in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, noting his tactical preference for a back four – a system he also employed with the England national team, aligning with Manchester United’s historical DNA.
However, Neville firmly dismissed the possibility of a return for former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He argued that re-appointing another club legend, following the tenures of Ryan Giggs and Solskjær, would be a repetitive and ultimately unsuccessful strategy. “This is already the 10th manager change since Sir Ferguson left office,” he pointed out, “There is an urgent need for appointments that are in line with the club’s philosophy.”
