Manchester City on top after record win – Gvardiol with two goals – Dagsavisen

by time news

Two points separate Arsenal when both title rivals have two league matches left to play.

Josko Gvardiol fixed City’s lead after just 13 minutes in the sunshine at Craven Cottage. The Croatian played a wall with Kevin De Bruyne, dragged himself into the box and finished nicely with his right foot.

The goal was Guardiol’s fourth in City’s last seven games. He has put in several of them with his supposedly weakest foot. 20 minutes before the end, the same man made it 3-0.

– This is a left-back Pep Guardiola bought as a centre-back, and of which he has now made a left winger. It is impressive what they are doing in Manchester City, said Tor Ole Skullerud in Viaplay’s half-time broadcast.

Haaland missed

Phil Foden’s goal crawler to make it 2-0 removed all doubt after just under an hour, and a few minutes later Erling Braut Haaland should have been on the scoresheet. Alone with the goalkeeper, he shot well over the target.

– What is happening there? exclaimed Viaplay’s football expert Nils Johan Semb.

Well into overtime, substitute Julian Alvarez made it 4-0 from the penalty spot. Fulham had Issa Diop sent off for two yellow cards.

Haaland was taken off after 82 minutes. Then Oscar Bobb came in as part of a triple swap.

For the second year in a row, Haaland looks set to become England’s top scorer. Jærbuen has 25 league goals and has four more than Cole Palmer (Chelsea).

Steady course

Manchester City have not conceded a point against Fulham since 2011. Saturday’s win was the 16th in a row against the London club in various competitions. It is a record in English football.

In the Premier League, City’s last loss came in early December. Since then, the team has gone undefeated in 21 league games (winning 17 of them).

With a full pot against Tottenham (b) on Tuesday and West Ham (h) on 19 May, Guardiola wants to lead Manchester City to the club’s fourth straight PL title. No one has managed that before.
