Walid Saadaoui, of Abram in Wigan, and Hussein, of no fixed abode, were convicted of preparing acts of terrorism between December 13, 2023, and May 9, 2024, according to court records.
Planned Attacks on Jewish Communities
The court heard that the men’s plan involved acquiring weapons and ammunition and identifying a mass gathering of Jewish people to attack. They had also identified areas in Greater Manchester with a large Jewish population, the court was told.
In addition to targeting Jewish communities, the men intended to kill any law enforcement or police officers who attempted to stop them. Their plans were revealed through their communication with an individual named Farouk, which allowed police to intervene and prevent the attacks.
Farouk reportedly offered to arrange for the weapons to be brought into the country from Europe.
Why It Matters
This case highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism and the specific danger posed to Jewish communities. The conviction demonstrates the effectiveness of law enforcement and intelligence agencies in disrupting terrorist plots before they can be carried out. The case also underscores the international nature of terrorist networks, with plans to import weapons from Europe.
