A mother’s anguished cries echoed through a Mansoura mosque on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, as Mrs. Basant Adel Al-Maghazi collapsed upon learning of the deaths of her three children in a devastating apartment fire. The tragedy has gripped the city, leaving a community in mourning.

Grief Overwhelms Family After Mansoura Fire Claims Three Young Lives

The deaths of Salim, Suleiman, and Sufyan Al-Maghazi, ages 9, 6, and 4 respectively, have left their mother inconsolable and the city of Mansoura reeling.

  • An electrical short circuit sparked the fatal fire on the last floor of a residential building in Mansoura.
  • The victims – Salim Nour El-Din, Suleiman, and Sufyan Al-Maghazi – were brothers.
  • The Public Prosecution has authorized the burial of the children after confirming no criminal suspicion.
  • Mrs. Basant Adel Al-Maghazi, the children’s mother, collapsed while awaiting their bodies for the funeral.

“Oh my love, oh my life… You broke my back, oh love of my life,” Mrs. Al-Maghazi reportedly cried, according to witnesses, as family members desperately tried to comfort her. The heartbreaking scene unfolded outside the “Al-Issawi” Mosque, where dozens had gathered to prepare for the afternoon funeral prayer.

What caused the fire that took the lives of these three young boys? An electrical short circuit is believed to be the cause of the blaze, which consumed the contents of the apartment on the last floor of a building located on “Khalil” Street, off Secondary Street.

Firefighters Contain Blaze, Investigation Concludes

Major General Essam Hilal, Director of Dakahlia Security, was notified of the massive fire, prompting a swift response from Civil Protection Forces. They successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring properties. Ambulances transported the bodies of Salim, Suleiman, and Sufyan to the morgue at Mansoura International Hospital.

The Public Prosecution swiftly launched an investigation, ultimately determining there was no evidence of foul play and authorizing the release of the bodies to the family for burial. The somber procession to the final resting place followed the afternoon prayer at the Al-Issawi Mosque.

A Community Mourns

The tragedy has cast a pall over Mansoura, with residents expressing their condolences to the Al-Maghazi family. The loss of three young lives serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of electrical fires and the importance of fire safety measures.

Electrical fires are a leading cause of residential fires, often stemming from faulty wiring or overloaded circuits. Regular inspections and adherence to safety guidelines can significantly reduce the risk.
