In Russia, the production of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) will be launched before the end of the year, Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov told reporters, TASS reports.

The Deputy Prime Minister could not name a specific month when the installation of ABS will again become mandatory, but component manufacturers promised to form a program for Russian ABS by the end of the year, he added.

“Based on this, we will return it to square one,” Manturov concluded.

At the end of January, the government extended the simplified rules for the production of cars in the country until June 1, 2023. The rules, introduced in May 2022, simplify the certification of cars, which will allow the production of cars with a lower environmental class and without some systems that are currently unavailable due to for sanctions. In particular, cars can be produced without ABS, the installation of an emergency response system in case of accidents ERA-GLONASS, but with mandatory retrofitting before February 1, 2023.

According to the results of January, sales of new cars in Russia decreased by 63.1% in annual terms. A total of 32,499 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) were sold, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said earlier. The most sold models were cars of the brands Lada (17,468 units), Chinese Haval (4,535 units) and Geely (3,501 units).
