Hannover 96’s managing director, Marcus Mann, is heading to RB Salzburg,
the clubs confirmed on Christmas Eve.
Marcus Mann is leaving Hannover 96 after four and a half years with the
“Reds” to take on the same role at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. The move
marks a significant shift for the 41-year-old executive.
“Saying goodbye was very difficult for him,” Mann said in a statement.
“Over the four and a half years I have always been involved with great
passion and have taken the club, the city and the people very close to my
heart.” He’s signed a contract with Salzburg that runs through June 30,
2030.
Mann expressed optimism about his new role, stating, “The club stands for a
clear philosophy, successful youth work and ambitious goals.” He aims to
make a lasting impact at RB Salzburg.
Hannover 96 has already appointed Jörg Schmadtke as the new sports
director, effective January 1, 2026. Schmadtke’s contract extends until
February 28, 2029. He previously served as sports director for Liverpool
FC until February 2024 and is familiar with Hannover, having held the same
position there from 2009 to 2013.
During his earlier tenure, Schmadtke, alongside trainer Mirko Slomka,
developed players like Lars Stindl, Ron-Robert Zieler, and Mame Diouf.
Hannover 96 qualified for the UEFA Europa League twice under their
leadership. Schmadtke voiced his enthusiasm for returning, stating he
wants to gain a “comprehensive picture” and engage in extensive
conversations.
Martin Kind, chairman of Hannover 96 GmbH & Co. KGaA’s supervisory board,
emphasized that contact with Schmadtke remained consistent after his
initial departure. He described Schmadtke as an “experienced specialist”
who embodies a “structured approach, decision-making power and, as a
result, successful work.”
