OSLO – Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado is safe in Norway after a perilous, secretive extraction from her home country, following the December 10 awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize. The details of the operation, carried out by the specialized firm Grey Bull Rescue, emerged as the company released images of the intervention.
A Risky Journey to Freedom
“I am María Corina Machado. I am alive, safe and very grateful,” Machado stated in video footage released by Grey Bull Rescue, showing her aboard a vessel at sea, wearing a sports cap. The images served as proof of life after the operation.
Once in Norway, Machado recounted the difficulties of the voyage. “I got hurt because the waves were very strong, waves of more than two meters with a lot of wind and we got lost at sea, we lost the GPS signal. The satellite phone wasn’t working either,” she explained.
Grey Bull Rescue Details the Operation
Bryan Stern, the founder of Tampa, Florida-based Grey Bull Rescue, revealed that he met Machado at sea and facilitated her transfer to a secret location in the Caribbean. From there, she boarded a flight to Oslo to accept the Nobel Peace Prize and reunite with her family.
“It was dangerous. It was terrifying,” Stern said. “The sea conditions were ideal for us, but they weren’t waters you want to be in. The higher the waves, the harder it is for radar to see. That’s how it works.”
Stern denied any involvement from former President Trump and declined to disclose the precise location of the rescue, stating, “We still have work in Venezuela and we don’t want to put people, sources, or methods at risk.”
