Berlin – Two inmates were injured in a dispute among prisoners in House II of the Tegel correctional facility on Saturday. There are prisoners in the wing who have been sentenced to life imprisonment. One of the injured men is, according to information from fellow prisoners, Mario K., who is known as a so-called mask man because of the attack on two millionaire families in 2011 and 2012 in Bad Saarow and Storkow in Brandenburg and is in a controversial process by the regional court in Frankfurt (Oder) was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The now 54-year-old trained roofer is serving his sentence in Berlin. In the course of the three acts, he shot and seriously injured a security guard and carried off a millionaire in a spectacular way in a kayak. In the process, Mario K. stated that he was the wrong person. Despite doubts, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2015 for attempted murder, extortionate kidnapping and dangerous bodily harm.
It is not the first time that the “masked man” draws attention to himself in prison. Two years ago he hit the headlines with a spectacular attempt to break out. At that time he had been able to cut through the bars of his cell with a chemical liquid and electricity and rappel down from the third floor with the sheets tied together. The judicial administration has now confirmed that there had been an incident “below the reporting threshold” on Saturday. Accordingly, two prisoners were locked in their cells after a verbal argument. They later called 911 and said they had been injured. Superficial cuts were found on Mario K.’s thumb and leg.
The “mask man” claimed to have been attacked by a fellow prisoner with a knife. However, a knife was not discovered during the search of the detention rooms and the kitchen wing, said Sebastian Brux, spokesman for the justice administration.
