He just can’t get rid of the tormenting feelings of guilt…

Party hit singer Markus Becker (52, “The Red Horse”) is known as a mood guarantor who is actually always in a good mood. But there is something that has been weighing on the Mallorca star with the red hat for years. And that has to do with the helicopter accident of his colleague Anna-Maria Zimmermann (34, “Maybe with you”).

In 2010, Zimmermann crashed from a height of around ten meters in a helicopter on the way to the “Ballermann Awards” ceremony in Altenbeken (North Rhine-Westphalia). She narrowly escaped death and suffered life-threatening injuries. Her left arm is still paralyzed to this day.

Markus Becker to BILD: “Back then, as a source of ideas, I suggested that each Ballermann star come to the show with a different, spectacular vehicle. Because the motto was ‘Higher, faster, further!’ One came on a motorcycle, another on a Nightliner bus, and someone else on a tractor. Everyone wanted to top the other! Anna-Maria wanted to do something very special and decided on a helicopter.”

Because of another appearance, Markus Becker himself was unable to attend the “Ballermann Award”.

Anna-Maria Zimmermann can now perform without an arm sling. Last weekend she also sang her new song “Maybe with you” at the “Mallorca Season Closing 2023” in the Bierkönig.

Becker: “After my performance I heard on the car radio that a singer had crashed in a helicopter at the ‘Ballermann Award’. I later found out it was Anna. I was completely shocked and immediately blamed myself. Because if I hadn’t had the idea of the different vehicles, Anna wouldn’t have flown in the helicopter and the accident would never have happened. To this day I still can’t get over it.”

When meeting Zimmermann, the ex-DSDS singer hugged Markus Becker. She told BILD: “What happened back then happened, and of course I don’t blame Markus for it. I’m sorry he does it himself! It speaks to his sensitive side that he blames himself, which I would like to take away from him because he can’t do anything about the accident.”

Zimmermann still remembers the first time she met Becker after her accident. At the time, she wore her arm in a sling. Zimmermann: “Markus looked down embarrassed because he was visibly uncomfortable with the situation. And then he said something that was actually completely wrong, but somehow it was funny coming out of his mouth.”

The singer: “He looked at my arm and said: ‘Well, now we both have our trademarks: I have the red hat and you have your paralyzed arm.’ Markus is the only person who I don’t hold against such a stupid saying because I know he’s a nice guy and didn’t mean any harm.”

Becker, who is now also successful with children’s songs, assures: “I didn’t mean that in a bad way! What I meant was that Anna now has this story about the crash that will always be with her, like the red hat will be with me.”
