A married woman in Thiruvallam, identified as Shahana Shaji, has reportedly committed suicide due to constant harassment at her husband’s house. The incident took place around 4 pm yesterday and a case has been registered against the woman’s husband and mother-in-law based on a complaint filed by her family. The family has also released footage showing the woman being physically abused by her husband’s family members.
Shahana, a resident of Vandithadam, Tiruvallam, got married to Naufal from Kattakkada three years ago. According to Shahina’s relatives, she has been a victim of physical abuse by her husband and mother-in-law since her marriage. It has been alleged that the mother-in-law was harassing her for more dowry, despite having already received 75 as dowry from Shahana’s family. Three months ago, Shahana couldn’t bear the torture and moved back to her family’s house in Gardthadam with her two-year-old child.
Naufal had come to Shahana’s house yesterday to take her and the baby to attend her brother’s baby’s birthday celebration. When Shahana refused to go, Naufal left with the baby, despite her strong opposition. Shahana, who had taken the baby, later entered her room and was found dead. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
