PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Maryland men’s golf team begins its spring season this week, competing at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California, from February 23-25. The tournament marks the first competitive action for the Terrapins since the fall season concluded, and represents an important opportunity to build momentum as they head into the heart of their schedule. The team will play one round each day, Monday through Wednesday, with tee times and live scoring available here.

Head coach Dennis Zaremsky will be looking to a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers to lead the way. The Terrapins will be facing a challenging field of 24 teams at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, providing a strong test for the squad early in the spring season. This event is a key component of Maryland’s preparation for the upcoming Big Ten Championships and NCAA Regionals.

Maryland’s Spring Slate Begins on the West Coast

The Classic Club, a par-72 course designed by Tom Fazio, will host the tournament. The course is known for its challenging layout and stunning desert scenery, offering a picturesque but demanding environment for collegiate golfers. The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate provides a valuable opportunity for the Terrapins to adjust to playing conditions different from those they typically encounter on the East Coast.

Representing Maryland on the course will be junior Emil Riegger, sophomores Will Gregware and Benjamin Siriboury, and freshmen Griffin Barke, Caden Piselli, and Cade Kriscunas. Riegger has shown consistent performance for the Terrapins, recently tying for 12th at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate with a score of 212 (-4) and tying for 13th at the White Sands Collegiate with a score of 210, setting a recent career low with a round of 65, according to University of Maryland Athletics.

A Look at the Terrapin Roster

The team’s composition reflects a blend of experience and youthful talent. Riegger’s established presence provides leadership, even as the sophomores Gregware and Siriboury offer continued development and consistency. The freshman class, consisting of Barke, Piselli, and Kriscunas, brings fresh energy and potential to the team. The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate will be a crucial opportunity for these newcomers to gain valuable competitive experience.

The inclusion of these six golfers highlights the depth of the Maryland men’s golf program. Coach Zaremsky will be looking for contributions from all players as they navigate the challenges of the spring season. The team’s success will depend on their ability to perform consistently and capitalize on opportunities when they arise.

Beyond Palm Desert: The Road Ahead

The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate is just the first step in a busy spring schedule for the Maryland men’s golf team. Following this tournament, the Terrapins will continue to compete in several other events, building towards the Big Ten Championships in April. The team’s performance throughout the spring will determine their chances of earning a spot in the NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championships.

Isaiah Ibit, a sophomore, is as well competing in the 2025 Eisenhower Trophy, according to IGF Golf, alongside Emil Riegger and other collegiate golfers. Glawe and Wiedemeyer will also be competing.

The team’s focus will be on continuous improvement, both individually and collectively. Coach Zaremsky and his staff will be working closely with the players to refine their skills, develop their mental game, and foster a strong team dynamic. The ultimate goal is to reach their full potential and represent the University of Maryland with pride.
