The London “Tube” should finally roll next week. A strike which promised significant disruption in the British capital’s metro was suspended at the last minute at the end of the day on Sunday following “positive discussions”, announced the RMT union.
The strike, based on the question of wages, was to begin Sunday evening and last until at least next Thursday. The network operator TfL (Transport for London) had also recommended earlier in the day that travelers complete their journey on the metro before 5:30 p.m. (local and GMT).
Planned Tube strikes will be affecting TfL services between Sunday 7 and Friday 12 January.

“TfL failed to avoid this strike by not proposing an offer that was acceptable to London Underground employees,” even declared a spokesperson for the RMT (rail, maritime and transport) union in a press release.
But late in the afternoon, the planned strike action was “suspended with immediate effect”. “Following further positive discussions today, negotiations on a pay agreement can now proceed on a better basis,” Mick Lynch, general secretary of the RMT union, said in a statement.
“We look forward to entering into urgent negotiations with Tfl to reach a suitable agreement and resolution of the conflict,” he added.
