Laika Perra Russa: New Album and Rosario‘s Dark Undercurrents

The Buenos Aires room The Tangent will‌ host a special evening on August 9th, featuring the return of local band ‍Laika⁢ Perra Russa. The event will revolve around two‍ contrasting approaches to pop music.

The band, known⁣ for their “trench pop” style, ‍will present their seventh ⁢album, “Under the Storm,” which tackles darkness and uncertainty through dance and pop music. Lead⁣ singer Manuel “Checho” Godoy reflects, “One is trying to explain to oneself ⁣the things that happen to one in this life.”

The album’s release coincides with significant ‌cultural shifts, referencing the pandemic and the post-pandemic era.⁤ Godoy notes the contrast between his analogue upbringing and the ‌current technological landscape.

Despite the album’s darker‌ themes, the band aims to balance the negativity‌ with a sense of hope and connection. “We are not‍ interested in being totally dark,” Godoy emphasizes. “You don’t ⁤have the real story, ‌you don’t know what’s going to happen. We believe that the way out is collective.”

The band also welcomes special guest Litto Nebbia on the track “Lejos del Centro,” ‍paying homage to the⁢ renowned tango singer.

Laika Perra Russa’s⁣ music ‌reflects the realities of their hometown, Rosario. The city’s struggles with violence‍ and drug trafficking are addressed in their songs, with ⁣Godoy stating, “There are no more drugs ⁢in Rosario than in the Province of Buenos ⁢Aires. It⁣ is true ⁣that a lot of drugs leave the port area for other places. This affects us in every ⁣way.”
