Popular food company McDonald’s has decided to temporarily close its restaurants in Russia.

The agency said in a statement that it could not tolerate human suffering in Ukraine. McDonald’s Russian branches alone employ 62,000 people.

The company said Russian and Ukrainian employees would continue to be paid. Notably, McDonald’s was the first Western company to open in Russia. The company has been operating in Russia since 1990.
