McLaren Automotive has revealed Project Viva, a truly unique 750S commissioned through its bespoke division, McLaren Special Operations (MSO). The vehicle serves as a vibrant tribute to Las Vegas, celebrating the shared values of innovation, ambition, and high performance that define both the city and the iconic British automaker.
A Canvas of Motion: The Design Philosophy
MSO, responsible for McLaren’s most exclusive customizations and one-off creations, approached the project with a deliberately unconventional vision. Rather than replicating the bright, colorful aesthetic typically associated with Las Vegas, the team opted for a monochrome palette to capture the city’s underlying rhythm, architecture, and atmosphere. As a senior official stated, “This is about translating the feeling of Las Vegas, not just its appearance.”
The resulting “Sketch in Motion” livery is a complex, hand-painted design that evokes the movement and character of the city. It incorporates references to iconic signs, the city’s skyline, and its vibrant entertainment and music scene, all woven into a narrative that also honors McLaren’s own sporting and design legacy.
Exclusive Finishes and Artistic Detail
Project Viva features two exclusive paint colors developed by MSO. Muriwai White accents the grills and doors, referencing the architectural lines of Muriwai House. The primary finish, Vegas Nights, is a deep black infused with subtle flakes of cyan, magenta, and green, designed to mimic the neon glow of Las Vegas after dark. Every element, from the initial sketches to the final application of paint, was executed with meticulous intention. “We build around ideas and inspiration, rather than just aesthetics,” according to a company release.
A Champion’s Touch: Formula 1 Driver Collaboration
Adding a further layer of personalization, McLaren Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri contributed to the design. They hand-applied touches, including the addition of a tenth World Constructors’ Championship star to the rear bumper – a celebration of McLaren Racing’s recent victory. The drivers also added distinctive lines and individual splashes, underscoring McLaren Racing’s dedication to performance both on and off the racetrack.
