- The new design integrates with the existing landscape and a historic stream.
The decision to reconstruct and expand the existing swimming pool building, originally from the 1980s, was made after a technical assessment and cost evaluation. Planning for this major undertaking, spearheaded by the architecture firm MD Polska, commenced in 2016. Ultimately, the existing building structure was retained as a base for the new design.
Integrating Nature and Recreation
A key goal of the project was to preserve the existing green spaces and flora within the city center. The new Aqua Toruń was carefully inserted into the existing landscape to create a valuable leisure and recreation destination. The design also incorporated the memory of a stream that was channeled in the 1970s.
Design Inspired by the Past
The original course of this stream served as a blueprint for the site’s zoning. This thoughtful planning has resulted in distinct areas for various activities. Visitors can enjoy modern facilities for sporting pursuits, including skater systems, leisure areas, and gyms. Additionally, the site features ample recreation zones, complete with pathways for walking and expansive green spaces designed for diverse uses.
