Chennai: On the occasion of receiving the President’s flag, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has announced that everyone from the DGP to the constable will be awarded the Tamil Nadu Government Police Medal. He also said that we will implement the welfare programs by accepting the recommendations of the Police Commission.

The President’s flag receiving ceremony for the Tamil Nadu Police was held yesterday at Rajaratnam Stadium, Chennai. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu participated in this and handed over the President’s flag to the Tamil Nadu Police through Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrived in a motorcade at 9.30 am to participate in the function. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Chief Secretary V. Irayanbu, Home Secretary K. Panindra Reddy, DGP Sailendra Babu, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal welcomed him. The Vice President accepted the honor of the parade led by Parangimalai Deputy Commissioner and Parade Leader Pradeep. Later, he went in an open jeep and watched the parade of units including the State Disaster Response Force, Task Force and the newly formed pipe band.

Subsequently, the Vice President received the President’s Flag from the Parade Vice President DSP Preethi and presented it to Chief Minister Stalin. The chief minister handed over the flag to the DGP, who handed it over to the marching officer. Thereafter, the Vice President accepted the honor of the parade with the flag.

The Vice President also unveiled the new logo for the Tamil Nadu Police. The Chief Minister received it and handed it over to the DGP. The Vice President also released a special envelope on behalf of the Postal Department on the occasion of the flag presentation ceremony. Selvakumar, head of the postal department, was present at that time.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Stalin said: Tamil Nadu Police has received the highest recognition of being the President’s flag. This is the pride not only for the police but also for Tamil Nadu. The same award was given to the Tamil Nadu Police on August 19, 2009 by the late former Chief Minister Karunanidhi.

The history of police began in 1856 in the then city of Madras. In 1859 the Madras Provincial Police Act was enacted. Therefore, our police force is a role model for various cities of the country.

Karunanidhi was the first in the country to appoint women constables. In 1973, a head constable and 20 constables were posted in Chennai under the leadership of Assistant Inspector Usha. Today, there are 1 DGP, 2 additional DGPs, 14 IGs and 20,000 female constables working in the field. Tamil Nadu is a pioneer state in empowering women in the police force. It was given by Karunanidhi.

The performance of the police in the last one year has been more commendable than before. There are no religious riots, no caste conflicts, no incidents of crime that make people panic. There is silence in the industrial areas. No shootings, no casualties. Police station deaths are down. I am not saying that it has decreased but not completely. Make it zero police station deaths.

Tamil Nadu Police should not be a crime reducing department but a crime prevention department. Even if minor crimes are committed, the accused should not escape from the clutches of the law. Those involved in sex crimes should be arrested immediately.

Many new industries are coming towards Tamil Nadu because it is a peaceful state. We will accept the recommendations of the Police Commission headed by retired Justice CT Selvam to consider the demands of the policemen and implement many welfare schemes. The government is ready to create an environment where the police officers and guards can work without worry.

The Tamil Nadu Policemen who have received the President’s Award will wear the flag as its symbol on their shirt. This symbol will make you proud. On the completion of 60 years of Tamil Nadu Police, Tamil Nadu Government Police Medal is going to be awarded to everyone from DGP to Constable on the occasion of receiving the flag of the President.

The Chief Minister spoke thus.

Tamil Nadu is the 5th state in the country to receive the President’s flag. Following Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu has received this honor.

Rs.1,000 reward.. 4 days holiday

After the ceremony, DGP Sailendrababu spoke to the officers and police who participated in the parade. Then, the DGP announced that they would be given a reward of Rs 1,000 and that they would be given 4 days leave from today and return to work on Friday.
