César Vallejo and Independiente Medellín faced each other for the fourth date of Group A of the Copa Sudamericana. A commitment that had as a recent precedent the victory of the Colombian team 4-2 on the second day of this championship.
Prior to this match, the Peruvians had just lost 2-0 against Always Ready in Bolivian territory. While Alfredo Arias’ team defeated Defensa y Justicia 2-1 at the Atanasio Girardot.
The match began evenly for Peruvians and Colombians, where those from Trujillo came out to show their conditions as locals against a powerful team that hoped to have a mistake from its rival in order to counterattack and have a chance to do damage.
This is how, 14 minutes into the first half, the visiting team would score the first goal of the match, after Medellín’s forward, Brayan León, received a pass into the void and finished without any problem against César Vallejo’s goalkeeper.
However, this advantage would last a few minutes for Medellín, since at 21 minutes César Vallejo would find the tie after the goalkeeper of the powerful team, Eder Chaux, made a grotesque error in the area that allowed the forward of the Peruvian team , Jairo Chávez, in scoring his goal.
Medellín would not sit idly by in the first half, and a few minutes after the end of the initial period they would find the lead again on the scoreboard. Once again the manager would be Brayan León, who took advantage of a mistake by César Vallejo’s center back, Geisson Perea, and would end up scoring against the Peruvian team’s goalkeeper.
But Alfredo Arias’ team would look for more in the commitment and at 59 minutes Mender García would take advantage of another mistake by the Peruvian team’s defense and find his goal, thus leaving the third on the scoreboard for Medellín.
Beyond having a comfortable advantage on the scoreboard. Independiente Medellín would not stay with its arms crossed and would reach the fourth goal in the match, after the midfielder, Miguel Monsalve, made an individual play and left one of the best scores of the fourth round of the Copa Sudamericana.
Already in the final minutes of the game, the person in charge of scoring the fifth goal in the game would be Baldomero Perlaza, who had entered a few minutes and would also find his score on the scoreboard, thus leaving the comfortable victory for the Colombians in this fourth day of the Cup South American.
In this way, Independiente Medellín would reach its third consecutive victory in this South American Cup, remaining partially as leader of Group A with 9 points, being in direct places for the round of 16 of the competition.
