Veracruz University Students Excel at National Morphology Competition in Oaxaca

The Faculty of Medicine at the Veracruzano University (UV) demonstrated extraordinary skill and dedication,securing multiple awards at the XVII national Student Competition of Morphology,held during the XXVI National morphology Meeting 2025 in Oaxaca.The event, organized by the Mexican Society of Anatomy AC from September 22-26, saw UV teams competing across four key morphological sciences – neuroanatomy, embryology, histology, and anatomy – and achieving meaningful recognition for their work.
Strong Performance Across Disciplines
UV students participated with a dedicated team in each of the four core categories. Following a rigorous semifinal stage hosted at the Regional University of Southeast (URSE) on September 22nd, teams specializing in neuroanatomy, embryology, and histology advanced to the national finals on September 25th, competing against institutions from across the country.
Santiago Claims Top Honors in Oral Presentation
Third-semester Bachelor of Surgeon student, Emmanuel santiago Ventura, distinguished himself by winning first place in the oral presentation modality. His presentation focused on a report category and case series in comparative anatomy, and was completed with the guidance of teacher David Jerez Fidencio.this victory underscores the university’s commitment to fostering strong dialogue skills alongside scientific expertise.
Photographic Excellence Recognized
The university’s talent extended beyond oral presentations into the visual arts. In the National Anatomical photography Contest, students and faculty members achieved remarkable success. Norma Verónica Lagunes Álvarez took first place with her work, “Bicornate uterus with annexes.” flavio Luis Martínez Díaz secured second place with “A lethal turn and the clock against: testicular torsion,” while Luis mario Soto Zenteno earned third place for “Ovarian torsion: macroscopic appearance of necrosed ovarian cyst.”
Teamwork and Dedication Yield Results
beyond individual accolades, the UV teams demonstrated impressive collaborative spirit. A team comprised of Kenya Romina Contreras Cruz, Luz Gery Sarai Loera Jiménez, Jesús Iván del Toro López, and isait Yasser cruz Jiménez received an honorable mention – fourth place – in embryology, mentored by Yhara Betzabé Hidalgo Guapillo. Similarly, a neuroanatomy team consisting of Noel Artigas de la Cruz, Uriel Asbai Cruz Morales, Daniel alejandro Lau Gutiérrez, and Nahani Azrael Galicia Ramón, under the guidance of alfredo ham Nolasco, also earned a fourth-place mention. Rounding out the achievements,a histology team – María Fernanda Ramírez Antonio,Ariadna Rojas Reyes,Gustavo Misael Arrazola Romero,and Danae del Carmen López Hernández – led by Esli Isaí Castro Díaz,secured fifth place.
