Meeting of Generations | free press

by time news

Over the past few weeks and months, the two music enthusiasts have repeatedly talked privately about current and old records, trends and classics, were happy together or argued passionately or: sometimes different, sometimes amazingly unanimous points of view from the point of view two generations wondered. This gave rise to the idea of a new podcast format: Under the title “Needle Commits”, the duo discusses and discusses the most important albums of the past four or five weeks on the first of the month. Because the album format is damn important to both vinyl lovers when it comes to listening to music. Of course, it’s always possible that a somewhat older record “slips in” – first of all, no one can fully grasp the current overabundance of the wide-ranging pop culture, and secondly, one always rediscovers (or rediscovers!) records that are already have a few months or years under their belt. Acute music absorption with a wide view, so to speak!

The opening month of May is a particularly fruitful one – with Rammstein, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles and Florence and The Machine, a number of cultically revered artists have released long-awaited new works that are also making waves beyond their respective genres. Especially on the American rapper Lamar, who has been considered a creative phenomenon in hip-hop circles for years, both were able to agree very well, although they are rather distant from rap music: “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers” is one with a little listening time sensitive voyage of discovery full of surprising sounds, which in places already has the character of a radio play. There are also large overlaps in “Fleisch”, the debut album by singer Mia Morgan. Which is not only due to their skilful handling of the most beautiful wave beats and pop sounds of the – exactly – 80s, but also to their amazingly open examination of their own beauty demons. After such an experience you can reassure yourself of your differences, of course with Rammstein, but also with Harry Styles or Florence and The Machine. But: Especially when dealing with music that you would never actually hear, you sometimes discover nice surprises. Do not you believe? Hear it for yourself in “Needle Committed!”. Then it also becomes clear why the Falco album “einzelhaft” as a classic of the series is still so fresh after 40 years! (fp)
