megan Thee Stallion has secured a crucial win in her fight against online harassment and misinformation. On Monday, December 1, a jury delivered a verdict in her favor against milagro gramz, whose legal name is Milagro Cooper, following two days of deliberation. The ruling underscores the growing legal scrutiny of online conduct and its real-world consequences.
The Jury’s Findings and Damages
According to court reporter Meghann cuniff, the jury determined that Cooper not only defamed the Houston rapper but also intentionally caused emotional distress. This determination stemmed from evidence presented suggesting Cooper coordinated with Tory Lanez-who was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan in 2020-and actively promoted a deepfake pornographic video featuring the artist. The jury consisted of five men and four women.
Initially, jurors awarded Megan Thee stallion $75,000 in damages. However, U.S. District Court Judge Cecilia M.Altonaga later reduced the total to $59,000. Outside the federal courthouse, Megan expressed her relief, telling reporters, “I’m just happy.” As of this reporting, Gramz has not issued a public statement regarding the ruling.
Prior Sanctions Against the Blogger
This verdict builds upon previous legal setbacks for Gramz in the case. In July, she was ordered to pay $5,000 to cover Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney fees related to the forced disclosure of her text messages.Further,in October, the “LOVER GIRL” rapper secured sanctions against Gramz after the blogger deleted “thousands of text messages” despite a legal obligation to preserve them.
The Core of the Defamation Claim
Megan Thee Stallion initially filed the defamation lawsuit in October 2024, alleging that Gramz acted as a “mouthpiece and puppet” for Lanez. The lawsuit further claimed that Gramz orchestrated a campaign to “denigrate, belittle, insult and spread false statements” about the artist.
“It’s time to hold bloggers accountable for years of harassment, cyberbullying and the publication of misinformation about my personal and professional life,” Megan Thee Stallion stated at the time of filing.
Testimony Reveals Emotional Toll
During her testimony last month, megan Thee Stallion detailed the profound impact of the online attacks. She stated that cooper “created a space for a lot of people to come speak negatively” about her, adding, “I felt like nobody cared that I was shot. I know everyone was making jokes about it.”
The emotional weight of the situation was particularly stark when Megan revealed,”There was a time that I genuinely didn’t care if I lived or died. I felt like no way I mattered. No way I should even be living. I don’t want to be here. I’m tired of waking up. I just wanted to die. I was so tired of being alive.”
A Series of Legal Victories for Megan thee Stallion
This defamation ruling represents the latest in a series of legal successes for megan Thee Stallion. In January, she obtained a five-year restraining order against lanez, preventing any further harassing conduct. Additionally, in March, Plies dropped his copyright suit against Megan, GloRilla, and Soulja Boy concerning their 2024 collaboration, “Wanna Be.”
These wins demonstrate Megan Thee Stallion’s determination to protect her reputation and well-being in the face of relentless online attacks, and set a precedent for holding individuals accountable for the harm caused by online defamation and harassment.
