They were done with light blue spray paint. Anti-Semitic inscriptions were discovered this Sunday morning, avenue Thiers, the road which leads to the station, in Melun (Seine-et-Marne). A Star of David was painted on the bus shelter. A swastika was drawn on the ground at the foot of a Midas car service agency.

On the metal shutter of the store, just above the swastika, three initials have been traced: “MAJ”. In the entry to the social landlord agency, “Jewish sal” (sic) and “Hamas” are written. Finally, on the wall of the municipal garden, a tag of the same order was observed.

On the police side, we could only observe the facts. An investigation has been opened. No one has yet been arrested. And no complaints have been filed. But it won’t take long, as the mayor of Melun, Kadir Mebarek (Horizons), explained this Sunday evening.

“We will file a complaint this Monday morning,” said the elected official. He will also proceed first thing, still this Monday morning, to the erasure of all anti-Semitic tags, whether they have been painted on private buildings or municipal walls. “We will wait until we have received agreement from the police, the time for them to take samples,” he added.

Melun, this Sunday December 3, 2023.

The investigation could prove complex. Especially since on Avenue Thiers, added the first magistrate, there is no video surveillance camera. “It will be difficult to get a visual. » For the rest, the mayor “condemns with the greatest firmness these anti-Semitic acts. Since the start of the war (the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7), the city of Melun has been spared. There were no anti-Semitic acts. »

Kadir Mebarek adds that in his town there is a synagogue “which is nevertheless in the middle of the neighborhoods, in the heights of Melun. Cohabitation is peaceful. » We have to go back to 2018 to find traces of similar facts in the capital of Seine-et-Marne.

At the beginning of November of that year, tags were drawn in fluorescent orange paint on the Lavoisier social center, in the Mézereaux district. Before that, it was in 2010 that violently anti-Semitic inscriptions were painted in black and red over 70 meters of the Melun synagogue.
