Women’s Health Takes Center Stage at Pisa Open Day Focused on Menopause

Pisa,Italy – A extensive Open Day dedicated to women’s health during menopause will be held on Wednesday,October 29th,at the Casa della Salute in Pisa,located in the health district of via Garibaldi 198. The event builds upon initiatives launched earlier this month in recognition of World Menopause Day, observed on October 18th.

The North West Tuscany local Health Authority has prioritized initiatives aimed at improving female well-being during this significant life stage. This second Open Day at the Casa della Salute is specifically designed to address the multifaceted health needs of women experiencing menopause.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Menopause Care

The event is being organized collaboratively by the Pisa primary care functional unit, under the direction of Francesca Guarneri, and the clinical coordination team at the casa della Salute, led by Serena Batini. A diverse team of healthcare professionals will contribute their expertise, including Patrizia Monteleone, head of the Pisa Consultancy functional unit; counseling psychologist Linda Pieracci; Elena Griesi from the Public Hygiene and Nutrition functional unit; and Lara Braccini, head of the Pisa Sports Medicine unit.

“Menopause is a crucial phase for female health, with effects that go beyond the end of fertility,” a senior official stated. “It involves physical,psychological and social changes that affect quality of life and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease,diabetes and osteoporosis.”

Free Health Services available to Attendees

Attendees will have access to a range of free health services throughout the day. These include:

  • General Practitioner Visits: offering cardiovascular risk stratification and promotion of cancer screening and prevention programs (available non-stop from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM).
  • Free Vaccinations: Administered from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
  • Specialized Consultations: Short consultations with a gynecologist and a counseling psychologist will be available from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, providing in-depth information on menopause-related topics (booking recommended).
  • Nutritional Guidance: Weight status evaluations and nutritional consultancy will be offered from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, including guidance on individual energy needs, the Mediterranean diet, and reading nutritional labels (booking recommended).
  • ‘Menopause and Movement’ Workshop: An in-depth meeting will be held from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM (limited to 20 participants, booking required), followed by a group walk commencing at 4:00 PM.
