Together with this summary, the Confederation has also sent a longer document detailing the main needs and measures that urgently need to be implemented in terms of mental health in each of the aforementioned areas.

With this document- Explain Nel González ZapicoPresident of the Confederation, – We want to make a call to attention to the political formations and their leaders, so that, from the very electoral campaign, they keep in mind the importance of mental health for the society of the future and for the country project that they want to build during the next four years”.

Scientific evidence shows that one of the main risk factors for developing a mental health problem is poverty and economic inequality, Therefore, SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA calls for universal access to mental health services, regardless of the economic situation of the person, as well as a necessary greater investment to improve these services, which are still insufficient. Among its demands, the Confederation proposes proposals to improve mental health care for vulnerable groups (people in prison, the homeless, LGTBIQ+, migrants and racialized people), paying special attention to children, adolescents and young people. In this sense, González Zapico recalls that progress and the current way of life in Western societies are taking an emotional and psychological toll on all of society, but especially on children, adolescents and young people. The president of the Confederation criticizes that “We have accepted a life model that causes too much uncertainty, anxiety and hopelessness in future generations, which we are not knowing how to teach to manage those feelings either” and calls for greater investment in prevention and help resources at these ages. The suicide prevention and the urgency of carrying out a transversal approach to achieve it is another of the aspects to which the Confederation attaches special importance, given the increase that is taking place year after year, especially among the youngest people. According to the report ‘The mental health situation in Spain’, prepared by the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA Confederation and the Mutua Madrileña Foundation, suicidal ideation or attempt (31.8%) and self-harm (30.7%) are more common in the 18-24 age group. The report also reveals that 14.5% of the population has had suicidal ideation or has attempted suicide, which occurs to a greater extent among women (17.0%) than among men (11.7%), “due to so for the Confederation it is crucial to implement the gender perspective in all the measures it proposes in terms of mental health”, says González Zapico. The document also includes proposals aimed at improving the accessibility in matters of psychosocial disability, to encourage participation and independent and autonomous life of people with mental health problems, and offer support to their family and friends “as an essential element in the recovery of people with mental disorders, so they also need advice, support and training”, defends González Zapico. Finally, the Confederation also dedicates an epigraph to the defense of fundamental rightswith measures to put an end to the constant violations of rights suffered by people with mental health problems, such as involuntary treatments or mechanical restraints, which, according to the UN, “They can be considered torture, they are contrary to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and they cause greater mental suffering for the people who suffer them and their families, in addition to lacking a therapeutic perspective.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_btn title=”VOLVER A NOTICIAS” style=”gradient-custom” gradient_custom_color_1=”#ffffff” gradient_custom_color_2=”#ffffff” gradient_text_color=”#005b50″ shape=”square” align=”center” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-chevron-circle-left” add_icon=”true” link=”url:%2Fnoticias%2F|title:NOTICIAS||”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

MENTAL HEALTH SPAIN sends a decalogue to the main political formations with the priorities that urgently need to be implemented in mental health

Facing the general elections on July 23, the Confederation has sent this summary of demands, together with a more extensive document, in which it shows the state of mental health of the population and demands a series of measures.

The SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA Confederation has contacted the political parties that are competing in the next general elections, on July 23, to send them their demands and proposals on mental health, for the next four years of the legislature.

He does it through a decalogue which includes the main concerns and needs in mental health, in the fields of health, education, employment, childhood, adolescence and youth, employment, economy, human rights, suicide prevention, vulnerable groups, family and environment, and accessibility.
