The deputies unanimously adopted Thursday at first reading a socialist bill to eliminate certain bank inheritance fees, particularly when the deceased person was a minor or the sums concerned are less than 5,000 euros.

The United Assembly

“These costs arise in the event of painful circumstances at the time of death and are not paid by the account holder, obviously, but by his successors who have no other choice to pay the requested price,” he said. underlined the PS deputy Christine Pires Beaune, author of the text voted by all the groups, and which will now have to go to the Senate.

For the government, Olivia Grégoire, the Minister Delegate in charge of Business, Tourism and Consumption, supported a proposal “striking with common sense but also with humanity”.

“In such types of cases the National Assembly must obviously be united,” added Renaissance MP Mathieu Lefèvre.

30 to 40% of households included

The text proposes to eliminate inheritance bank fees for heirs in cases where the deceased person was a minor, or the sums involved are less than 5,000 euros. A threshold which makes it possible to include “between 30 to 40% of households”, according to Olivia Grégoire.

Beyond 5,000 euros, inheritance bank fees could also be waived in cases where the operations are “simple” and do not involve “any particular approach from the banks”, in the words of Christine Pires Beaune. These cases will have to be specified later in a decree, which could also provide for a capping of costs.

The LFI president of the finance committee Éric Coquerel called for this text to serve as a “foot in the door” with a view to a “much more restrictive law to comprehensively regulate banking fees, or even (the ) DELETE “.
