Each first day of the month has its share of changes affecting household finances. Mars is no exception to tradition.

Reform of the ISR label, act I

It is this Friday March 1st that the overhaul of the ISR label (socially responsible investment), a “buffer” created in 2016 by the Ministry of the Economy and from which 1,229 investment funds currently benefit, totaling 780 billion euros in assets (ministry figures at the end of January 2024).

Among the new features: the label now displays « exclusions »which means that funds must prohibit certain areas of activity (totally or almost, depending on the case).

They are, in particular, now asked to refrain from investing in companies developing new projects linked to fossil fuels (exploration, extraction, refining or transport), but also in companies whose activity is linked to exploitation of coal and unconventional oil or gas (shale gas, oil from tar sands, Arctic fossil resources, etc.).

“The exclusions are far from being the only novelty but it is an important clarification for the saver, the general public does not expect to find a player like TotalEnergies in ISR investments, but this was sometimes the case with the old reference of the label »notes Grégoire Cousté, general delegate of the Forum for Responsible Investment.

The entry into force of the reform currently only affects new funds labeled from March, “old funds, already labeled, have until the end of 2024 to comply”underlines Michèle Pappalardo, president of the ISR label committee.
