Mercedes-AMG Unveils First Electric SUV With 1,169 HP

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first dedicated all-electric full-size SUV, built from the ground up on the bespoke AMG.EA architecture at its historic Sindelfingen plant. The high-performance vehicle arrives with up to 1,169 horsepower from a tri-motor setup, an 800-volt electrical system capable of 710 kW fast charging, and simulated V8 audio for buyers willing to pay extra.

Mercedes-AMG has developed its first dedicated all-electric full-size SUV from the ground up at its Sindelfingen plant.

For the first time in its 59-year history, the high-performance sub-brand is developing a full-size SUV entirely in-house. The new model shares F1-derived electric hardware with the GT 4-Door Coupe, resting on a dedicated electric platform designed to project a low, dynamic silhouette.

AMG Launches Three Power Variants

European order books for the entry-level GT 53 open with prices starting from EUR 113,050 (approximately AUD $185,000). The more potent GT 55 and flagship GT 63 models follow in spring 2027. Global deliveries align around that window before the vehicle reaches U.S. dealerships in summer 2027 as a 2028 model year release.

Tri-Motor Setup Hits 1,169 Horsepower

The range-topping GT 63 pushes out a peak 1,169 horsepower (1,153 bhp) and 1,475 pound-feet of torque, dispatching 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds—or 2.7 seconds to 62 mph—en route to a top speed of 168 mph with the optional Driver’s Package.

The mid-tier GT 55 generates 805 horsepower and 1,372 pound-feet of torque, clearing the 0-to-62 mph sprint in 3.1 seconds. At the bottom of the range, the GT 53 employs two conventional permanent-magnet synchronous motors paired with a two-speed rear transmission, delivering 536 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.

Variant Motors Power Output Torque 0-62 mph Time
Mercedes-AMG GT 53 2 x Synchronous Motors 536 hp (400 kW) 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) 4.2 seconds
Mercedes-AMG GT 55 3 x Axial Flux Motors 805 hp (600 kW) 1,372 lb-ft 3.1 seconds
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 3 x Axial Flux Motors 1,169 hp (860 kW) 1,475 lb-ft 2.7 seconds

Battery Tech Supports 710 kW Charging

The high-performance battery supports a 710 kW peak DC charging rate, designed to replenish the unit with 450 km of range in 10 minutes. Both the 106-kWh NCMA battery pack in the GT 53 and the larger 128-kWh unit in the GT 55 and GT 63 run on an 800-volt architecture.

WLTP driving range estimates span from 415 miles for the base variant up to 435 miles for the larger battery configurations.

Chassis Controls Curb Weight and Sound

Curb weights reach 2,695 kilograms (5,941 pounds), requiring dedicated chassis technology.

Inside the cabin, drivers use seven drive modes, accompanied by digital instrument clusters and MBUX software. The vehicle’s acoustic strategy splits by trim: buyers selecting the entry-level GT 53 receive simulated six-cylinder audio, while the authentic V8 acoustic experience is restricted to the more expensive GT 55 and GT 63 variants.
