The discovery of a message in a bottle thrown into the sea by students has sparked emotional memories of the beloved teacher

Adam Travis from New York found something he thought only happened in stories. While walking on the shores of Shinnecock Bay in New York he came across a bottle and there was a letter.
The message on the bottle contained a message sent over 30 years ago: “Dear Finder, As part of a 9th grade science project, this bottle was thrown into the Atlantic Ocean near Long Island. Please fill out the details below and hold the bottle to us. Thanks, Sean and Ben.”

A person took a picture of the bottle and posted about it on the Facebook group of graduates of Titok High School, which is near the area where the bottle was found. The post received more than 5,000 likes and hundreds of shares. Many users recognized the project of their beloved teacher, Richard Brooks, who had them send the message in a bottle in 1992.

The teacher’s son, John Brooks, responded to the message. He informed that unfortunately his father passed away from Alzheimer’s disease last September. He was moved by the amount of messages of support and affection expressed by his father’s students, noting that he really loved teaching.

It is not clear what happened to Shawn and Ben, but we hope they are no longer throwing waste into the sea as part of a “science project”.
