Meta Debuts $1,299 VR Glasses and Muse Charm Pendant at Connect

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg debuted the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses alongside the Muse Charm and the expanded Muse AI assistant suite at the annual Connect conference.

Meta is doubling down on both augmented immersion and personal automation. During the annual Connect developer conference, the company revealed a wide array of hardware designed to bring its newly released Muse AI personal agent out of the software ecosystem and directly into physical life. The announcements span high-end virtual reality eyewear, a screen-equipped device designed for quick AI interactions, and expanded computer-use capabilities across desktop and mobile applications.

Meta VR Glasses Arrive as a Slimmer, $1,299 Headset

The headline hardware release is the Meta VR Glasses, marking the company’s first virtual reality device since the 2024 debut of the Quest 3S. Designed to be significantly slimmer and lighter than older Quest-branded headsets, the new glasses rely on an external puck housing a Qualcomm processor and battery. This architecture functions as a mini-computer that reduces the overall weight on the user’s face while delivering higher-resolution displays and advanced sensors that track eye and hand movements to minimize the need for handheld controllers.

The trade-off for the sleeker form factor and improved visual fidelity is cost. The device is priced at $1,299 and is scheduled to go on sale in spring 2027.

Muse Charm and Wearable AI Expansion

Alongside virtual reality hardware, Meta introduced Muse Charm, a pocket-sized silver square device featuring a front-facing screen, thicker black bezels, and a dangling wrist strap for portability. The touchscreen gadget lacks a camera, deliberately avoiding the design route of competing camera-based wearables, but includes a top-mounted microphone for voice prompts.

Zuckerberg positioned the Charm as an immediate communication hub for users interacting with their Muse AI agent.

“So, if you’re not wearing glasses, this is going to be by far the fastest way to talk to your Muse and to show it what’s going on around you.”

Meta plans to ship the Muse Charm in time for the holidays in December, though pricing details have not yet been finalized while the company finishes laying out components.

Security Architecture and Cloud Automation in Muse

At the center of these hardware releases is Muse, a personal AI agent developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. Muse is rolling out across a dedicated app for iOS and Android, the Muse.ai website, WhatsApp messaging integration, and upcoming support for Meta’s AI glasses. The software allows users to automate digital tasks in natural language, from sending emails and booking travel to assisting with selling a car.

To handle transactions securely, Meta integrated payment infrastructure designed by Stripe. The tool, called Link, generates single-use card numbers to prevent agents from exposing real financial details across the internet, backed by purchase protections and no-fee returns.

Because personal agents require handling sensitive data, Meta built a security architecture called Secure VM, which isolates each user’s activity in a virtual machine. David Singleton, Meta Superintelligence Lab’s vice president of engineering for consumer products, explained that a system named Sentinel monitors everything moving out of the virtual machine to match it against established permissions or trigger human-in-the-loop dialog boxes.

Pricing Tiers and Market Context

While basic interactions with Muse are free, users seeking to automate extensive digital tasks will need to subscribe to one of Meta’s AI subscription plans. The release puts Meta in direct competition with viral AI agents such as OpenClaw and Instinct. Meanwhile, the company continues to maintain its hardware lineup, offering the $299 Quest 3S alongside its Meta Glasses.
