NVIDIA Launches DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27 Along With New SDKs

Alongside the game rollout, Nvidia released the RTX Kit 2026.3 and RTX Mega Geometry 2.0 SDKs for developers.

When leaks pointed to a massive new DLL file inside an early access build of NBA 2K27, players and hardware enthusiasts expected a quiet preview. Instead, Nvidia rolled out the technology directly into the game release, marking the debut of DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in a publicly accessible title. The technology arrives alongside a sweeping software update for developers that pushes advanced neural graphics and path-tracing tools deeper into the ecosystem. Just last week, Nvidia’s controversial DLSS 5 technology leaked when a DLL file was found in the NBA 2K27 beta. An early-access NBA 2K27 build contains a 158 MB nvngx_dlssnr.dll (NVIDIA DLSSNR 310.8.0.0), the first publicly found DLSS 5 neural rendering runtime in a released game build. According to Renan Maniero, who discovered it in early access files of NBA 2K27, this is the first publicly accessible DLSSNR runtime found in a released game build. NBA 2K27 has shipped with a never-before-seen DLSSNR runtime, hinting at the arrival of NVIDIA’s next-gen neural rendering tech.

How DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Operates Inside Game Engines

What’s New for Game Developers

Nvidia bills DLSS 5 as a 3D-bound neural rendering technique, which takes geometry and color data from the game you’re playing, and then draws an AI-generated image on top of the rendered frame. The goal is to maximize photorealism, without the massive computational cost that would require in more traditional methods. Nvidia insists that because the model is constrained by the geometry and color information in the original scene, that it won’t add extra elements to the scene or misplace objects.

The underlying file identified in early access files was a 158 MB DLL named nvngx_dlssnr.dll, identified as NVIDIA DLSSNR 310.8.0.0. NBA 2K27 lacks UI toggles and NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed DLSS 5 compatibility yet.

The discovery of the technology has led some to express anticipation for what the new technology can deliver in a real-world game.

While some of the mods that materialized after the leak brought massive performance hits, the official integration in NBA 2K27 showcases the real-world application of the technology on GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. While NVIDIA has promised DLSS 5 for many other games in the future, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield, Oblivion Remastered, and numerous others, NBA 2K27 is the first showcase.

Developer Tools Expand With RTX Kit 2026.3 and RTX Mega Geometry 2.0

Beyond the consumer launch, NVIDIA has rolled out RTX Kit 2026.3 alongside version 2.0 of its RTX Mega Geometry SDK, giving game developers a fresh batch of neural rendering and path tracing tools. The latest update comes in the form of the RTK Kit v2026.3 SDK and the RTX Mega Geometry v2.0 SDK. Starting with the latest RTX Kit, NVIDIA offers developers its full range of Neural Rendering and Path Tracing technologies. In the latest SDK release, NVIDIA expands its support with high-density geometry, neural texture workflows, lighting, and texture filtering.

The headline feature is support for streaming continuous level-of-detail clusters for high-density meshes, shown off in a new textured glTF version of the Zorah demo. The rest of the RTX Kit update covers RTX Character Rendering 1.4, RTX Dynamic Illumination 3.1 with DLSS Ray Reconstruction integration, RTX Neural Shading 1.4, and RTX Texture Filtering 1.3, which adds Collaborative Texture Filtering.

Broader Industry Rollout and ARM64 Hardware Preparations

RTX Neural Texture Compression 0.10 is still in beta, but it now supports the DirectX 12 Agility SDK preview with Linear Algebra, letting Tensor Cores accelerate neural texture decompression in DirectX shaders. It and RTX Texture Filtering 1.3 also gain Windows ARM64 support, which seems to be groundwork for the RTX Spark PCs NVIDIA says start shipping in October.

At the same time, competitive esports infrastructure is adapting. Meanwhile, VCT Champs kicks off on September 24th, and the reigning 2025 Champions NRG have partnered with GeForce to upgrade their competitive PCs with GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs, giving players high frame rates and smooth, consistent performance needed to compete at the highest level. With NVIDIA Reflex helping reduce PC latency, NRG players can train and compete on systems built for faster, more responsive gameplay. The GeForce RTX 5080 gives competitors the ultimate edge with the ability to reach over 1,000 FPS at 1080p.
