It is a bit reminiscent of an idea from a science fiction novel: On Wednesday evening, Facebook presented its Metaverse, a virtual reality that Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced as the “successor to the mobile Internet”.
And the idea of such a cyber world actually comes from science fiction: The term itself comes from the novel “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson, published in 1992, who drew a gloomy world in the book in which people move from reality to escape virtual worlds.
