Belarusian weather forecasters stated: meteorological winter has come to Belarus, and from November 20 to 26, due to northern air currents, this character will continue. According to experts, Belarusians should prepare for winter frosts and the first snowfalls. However, it is possible that there will still be a thaw in the country until the end of November.
As Belarusian weather forecaster Dmitry Ryabov noted on the ONT TV channel, this week the average daily temperature will remain below the climate norm (about three degrees lower), so “winter indicators will be visible on thermometers,” and “by the end of the week, in most areas it will be snow”.
The weather forecaster predicted light precipitation in the form of snow and sleet for the western regions of the country on Monday-Tuesday, November 20 and 21. The temperature, according to him, at night will drop from -3°C in the western regions and to -10°C in the east of the country, on Monday – from -1°C to +5°C, on Tuesday – from -2°C up to +4°C (Belhydromet gave a forecast for these days of up to -13°C at night with clearing in the north-east of the country and up to -6°C during the day).
In the middle of the week, according to Ryabov, Belarus will be in an area of high atmospheric pressure, and another portion of cold air masses will come from the north, so the frosts will only get stronger. According to the Belhydromet forecast, on Wednesday, November 22, the minimum night temperature will be -4..-11°C (with clear weather – up to -15°C), and during the day, according to experts, the thermometer will not rise above -1..- 8°C. At the same time, short-term snow on this day is expected only at night and in the morning in the south of the country.
From Thursday, November 23, the Scandinavian cyclone and associated atmospheric fronts will bring snow or sleet to most regions of Belarus, Ryabov warned. The roads will remain icy. At night the temperature is expected to drop to -5°..-10°C, during the day – from +2°C to -3°C. Already on Friday, November 24, according to the weather forecaster, around 0°C is expected during the day.
What weather to expect for the weekend?
According to the preliminary forecast for the weekend of November 25 and 26, stormy weather fronts expected in Belarus from northwestern Europe will bring precipitation “almost everywhere.” During the night and morning hours, fog is expected to thicken and icy conditions will persist. At night it is expected from -2°C to -7°C (with clearings down to -10°C), and during the day – about 0°C.
