Mexico City breaks temperature record: it reaches 34.2 degrees

This afternoon a new historical record was established for maximum temperature for a day like today, April 15reported the National Water Commission (Conagua).

In it Tacubaya Meteorological Observatoryfrom the National Meteorological Service, 34.2 degrees Celsius were recorded, which exceeded the 33.9 degrees reached in 1998.

The Tacubaya Observatory was the place where this unprecedented temperature was reported, marking a historic day in the climatic records of the Mexican capital.

This event occurred in the middle of an anticyclonic system that has prevented the entry of rain and wind currents, generating extremely hot conditions in the region.

The record temperature on April 15 not only surpassed the previous daily high of 31.6 degrees, set on the same date in 1998, but also surpassed the monthly record of 33.7 degrees, recorded on April 10, 2009.

Furthermore, this milestone represents the highest temperature since records begansurpassing the previous record of 33.9 degrees recorded in May 1998.

The Mexico City International Airport (AICM) also experienced high temperatures, reaching up to 32 degrees during the day, confirming the exceptional nature of this climatic phenomenon.

Meteorological experts point out that this historical heat record is a worrying indicator of the effects of climate change and emphasize the importance of taking measures to mitigate its impacts in the future.

For this Monday, April 15, the SMN had predicted a minimum temperature for Mexico City of 13 to 15 degrees Celsius and the maximum of 31 to 33 degrees.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection activated Orange and Yellow Alerts due to heat in Mexico City.
