Guillermo Ochoa occupies the seat of legend in the history of Mexico. Mexico’s goalpost has been handled with great skill in five World Cups. But Ochoa’s place is not in the Copa America team. Mexico coach Jaime Lozano named a 31-man initial squad for the Copa without some experienced players.
Coach Lozano announced the initial squad of 31 on Friday (May 10). There was no place for 39-year-old Ochoa. Experienced players like Raul Jimenez and Harving Lozano have dropped out with him. Most of the players in this team are youth team.
In 2005, Ochoa was appointed to the national team of Mexico and played 150 matches for the national team. As a goalkeeper, no one played more matches for Mexico than him. From 2006 to the last World Cup, Ochoa was in the Mexico team in a total of five World Cups. In the last three World Cups (2022, 2018, 2014), Mexico’s goal post was the name of the trust.
Mexico will start their Copa America campaign with a match against Jamaica on June 22 from ‘B’ group. Mexico’s remaining two rivals in this group are Venezuela and Ecuador.
