Qualcomm has detailed its Snapdragon C system-on-a-chip platform for entry-level Windows laptops starting around $300, claiming up to 67 percent faster performance on battery and double the efficiency of Intel’s N250 processor, with initial hardware slated from manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo.
Qualcomm is pushing deeper into the entry-tier PC market with its ARM-based Snapdragon C system-on-a-chip, initially unveiled in June to target budget systems. While the company kept specifications under wraps during its Computex unveiling, fresh disclosures outline the hardware architecture, memory capabilities, and performance benchmarks that set up a direct challenge to Intel’s low-power processors.
Processor Architecture and Specifications of the Snapdragon C Platform
Fabricated on a 6nm process node, the Snapdragon C relies on a Qualcomm Kryo CPU architecture that packs eight cores. Graphics and artificial intelligence tasks are handled by an integrated Adreno GPU running at a maximum frequency of 900 MHz alongside a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, though the manufacturer has not yet specified the exact TOPS (trillion operations per second) metric for the neural processor. The silicon supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5, LPDDR5X, or LPDDR4X memory over a 32-bit single-channel bus, alongside PCIe 3.0 NVMe solid-state drives and UFS 3.1 or UFS 2.2 storage options.
Pitting Snapdragon C Against Intel’s Twin Lake Processors
To demonstrate the platform’s capabilities, Qualcomm tested a reference design featuring 8GB of memory against an Acer TravelMate equipped with Intel’s N250 processor and 8GB of RAM. The company reports that its chip runs up to 44 percent faster in single-threaded Geekbench and 24 percent higher in multi-core workloads when operating on battery power, while Speedometer 3.1 registers a 39 percent gain.
The most pronounced victories appeared in Cinebench testing. However, power efficiency remains the centerpiece of the manufacturer’s claims, with internal testing pointing to up to 2.1 times better efficiency overall.
Specific efficiency gains vary across common tasks when compared to Intel’s N200 Twin Lake platform. Qualcomm reports that streaming Netflix in Microsoft Edge consumes 106 percent less power, web browsing sees a 68 percent improvement, idle application workloads use 39 percent less juice, and Teams audio or video calls register major efficiency leaps.
Target Audience and Native Windows App Support
Qualcomm is positioning the silicon specifically for entry-tier buyers who traditionally must compromise on speed and longevity. Nitin Kumar, VP of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasized the target demographic in company statements.
Popular applications including Chrome, Excel, Instagram, Spotify, and Zoom now run natively on the platform, easing the transition for budget shoppers.
Expected Hardware Partners and Market Release Timeline
Major original equipment manufacturers are already aligned to release hardware built around the new platform. Acer provided an early look at Computex with its Aspire Go 15, featuring 8GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, while ASUS, HP, and Lenovo are also preparing upcoming machines.
Despite the robust hardware pipeline, exact release dates and final pricing remain unconfirmed. Observers note that rising component costs—particularly surrounding memory—create questions about whether the initial $300 price guidance will hold across all retail models, while the timing of upcoming device launches could align with either the IFA trade show in Berlin or a later appearance at CES.
