On Tuesday, Michal K. heard his indictment at the Municipal Court in Prague and had the opportunity to comment on his actions, which are qualified as attempted murder. In a few stark sentences, the young man told the court that he considers the incident to be a disaster and that he does not remember the attack. “I came to the bar to see my friend, I had a few beers and a few shots,” said the accused man, saying that he knows that hard alcohol is not good for him.
“I woke up in the hospital this morning. There, the policeman told me what happened and I burst into tears,” said Michal K. At the court, he also tried to explain that the Christmas period is difficult for him psychologically, he mentioned that he lost his brother more sine in 2019 during this period and also briefly about the stepfather. According to him, he used alcohol to deal with sadness and his depressive state.
The indictment says the men fought verbally and then physically. Michal K. should have punched the victim. He then took it out to the bar with his friends and they went back inside themselves. “He then returned to the bar and with a clear intention to attack he prepared an open pocket knife in his hand. Immediately after entering the bar, he attacked the victim without reason and by surprise in a completely inappropriate manner“, said the public prosecutor.
He defended himself with a hole in his head
At the same time, the young man aimed the knife attack directly at the head. Despite a three-centimeter-deep wound in his temple, the victim managed to take the young man out to the bar again, where he calmed him down with another man and waited for the police to arrive. At the same time, the attacker made the last lunge when he bit the injured person hard on the bladder.
“I don’t understand how I could do that. I only remember the fun I had with the barrel, I don’t remember at all that I had any conflicts, that someone told me to leave,” the accused man regretted in court.
The president of the court panel asked the accused young man if he had ever tried to solve his alcohol problems with professional help. Michal K. explained that he had an appointment at one of the clinics, but due to his financial situation, he has not received the treatment yet.
12 years in prison?
In addition to attempted murder, the prosecution accuses him of disorderly conduct. The prosecutor Taťána Pritzi recommended a sentence of twelve years for the young man. The injured man is claiming half a million in compensation from the attacker, as a result of the injury, according to his lawyer, it has consequences that restrict him in the performance of his profession.
