Microsoft Introduces Power Saver Mode in Latest Windows 11 Build
In the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26002, Microsoft has introduced a new Power Saver mode aimed at helping users extend the battery life of their laptops. This feature is now available to Canary Channel insiders who have installed the latest build.
The Power Saver mode, available on both desktop and laptop computers, works similarly to battery saving mode but prioritizes power conservation by sacrificing some system performance. This can help extend battery life by reducing power usage and optimizing system performance.
Users can access this feature through the system’s quick settings menu and can also set it to turn on automatically once the battery level reaches a certain point. Additionally, the mode can be configured to work even when the device is connected to a power source, making it useful for desktop users who want to lower their energy bill.
In addition to laptops, Microsoft also introduced power-saving features for the Xbox Series, reducing standby mode power consumption to 10-15 watts.
Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc from Microsoft stated that while this mode may trade off some system performance, it is an easy way to extend battery life.
For those who have not yet signed up for the Windows 11 Insider Program, they can still extend their PC’s battery life with the built-in Battery Saver feature. This mode temporarily disables power-intensive processes such as automatic email and calendar syncing, live tile updates, and non-powered apps.
To turn on Battery Saver, users can go to Start > Settings > System > Power & battery, and choose to activate it automatically when the battery reaches a certain level.
Microsoft also recommends additional steps to optimize battery life, such as adjusting the active display duration, reducing screen brightness, changing app background activity settings, selecting a more efficient power mode, or turning on Airplane mode if wireless connections are not needed.
With the introduction of Power Saver mode, Microsoft aims to provide users with more control over their device’s power usage and extend the battery life of their devices.
