Microsoft is testing a new power-saving mode on Xbox Series X

by time news

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X game consoles allow users to save power through Power Saving and Standby options, however, Standby mode consumes 20 times more power than Power Save when the console is not on the use.

But a new report from The Verge claims that Microsoft is testing a new update for Xbox power-related settings for members of the Xbox Insider Program.

Currently, Xbox power saving options are available in the sleep and start menu, and here, users are presented with two options: power saving and standby, where users need to keep their console in standby and remote functions to work.

And now, Microsoft is said to be letting Xbox Insider users test a new power-saving menu in the General Settings section, as the new Power Options section includes a power consumption meter where users can find their power usage.

The Power Save and Standby modes have been renamed to Off and Sleep, respectively, and the power usage meter shows how much power the Xbox console will consume when it’s not in use.

The screenshot shared on Twitter shows that the Xbox console’s energy-efficient shutdown mode will use 0.5 watts of power compared to the 13-15 watts it’ll use in sleep mode.

However, it is important to note that the off setting will still allow the console to cool down automatically during the night, which can cause increased power consumption, and to prevent this from happening, users must manually disconnect their console from the power supply as there is none. Another option is to disable automatic updates.

Currently, this is an Xbox Insider exclusive and Microsoft hasn’t announced any official details about the new power-saving options on Xbox consoles.
