Another shipwreck off the coast of Libya. Alarm Phone on Twitter talks about eleven people drowned off the coast of Zawiya today and adds: We are so angry about this continuing loss of life. NGOs and activists are the only ones to sympathize with people who move at sea. All state entities prefer to disappoint them. Another 12 people were rescued and returned to Libya. Last April 22, 130 other shipwrecked people lost their lives along the same route, while between Friday and Saturday in several waves about 700 managed to reach Lampedusa. .
Another 97 people are reported in distress aboard a wooden boat. They had been spotted by a Frontex plane after setting sail from Zuara, along the Libyan coast. To their rescue, the Italian Coast Guard hijacked two ships (an oil tanker and a freighter) that were nearby. When the two units arrived, the situation became very tense. The castaways are in panic – reports the Alarm Phone organization – they cry on the phone. Some want to swim to the two nearby ships which refuse to intervene, rather than being forced to return to Libya. Tense situation, Italy still refuses responsibility. In the last few hours, however, another 49 migrants have landed in Pozzallo after being rescued by the NGO ship Ocean Viking.
