Mike Love returned to the stage with the Beach Boys in Cincinnati on October 10, 2026, marking the band’s first public performance since July. The 85-year-old co-founder performed seated and sang backing vocals, despite ongoing tour cancellations and serious health challenges noted by band members.
The Beach Boys played their first public show since July at Cincinnati’s PNC Pavilion, bringing 85-year-old co-founder and frontman Mike Love back to the stage despite facing serious health challenges. Love was helped onto the stage by his son, Christian Love, and actor and band member John Stamos. Wearing a cap, hoodie, and scarf, Love remained seated in a chair for the duration of the evening, contributing backing vocals while other band members handled lead singing duties.
John Stamos Shares Emotional Update on Mike Love
Before the music began in Cincinnati, Stamos addressed the audience directly to explain the circumstances behind the frontman’s return after months of cancelled shows and a hiatus. Stamos told the crowd that Love had insisted on making the trip despite medical advice.
“He’s been going through some health issues. He’s had to cancel some shows. But he would not miss tonight. We sort of said, ‘stay home,’ but he was like, ‘No, I’m going to Cincinnati.’ It’s what he loves the most. He loves the audience. He loves the music. He knows how important it is to all of you. So we’re all here to support him and give him as much love as we can.”

Following the Cincinnati performance, as the band traveled to Nashville for a scheduled concert at the Ryman Auditorium, Stamos posted an emotional message on Instagram detailing his perspective on the tour and the fragility of his longtime mentor. While Mike Love performed at the Ryman that evening, his former bandmate Al Jardine—recognized as the sole remaining original member of the lineup besides Love—was touring with Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band.

“My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges. We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight.”

Stamos added that after playing with Mike for 41 years, seeing someone larger than life face something so human and fragile
affected him deeply. He noted that while doctors, family, and friends urged Love to focus strictly on his health, the musician insisted on performing because he needed his band, audience, friends, and drummer surrounding him to lift him up. The actor and musician also acknowledged that the version of Love on stage might not mirror the exact figure audiences always recognized, yet emphasized he remained entirely the Mike they cherish, noting his lyrics, optimism, unforgettable hooks, and a career spanning upwards of 7,000 concerts that brought joy across generations.
Tour Cancellations Preceded Cincinnati
The return to the stage follows an extended period of disruption for the touring group. The Beach Boys remained off-stage for months starting in July after Love experienced a series of health and personal setbacks. In a June social media message, Love explained that his physical recovery from what began as bronchitis, followed by COVID-19, compounded the heartbreak of losing his sister, Maureen, on the first anniversary of his cousin Brian Wilson’s death.
Although the band initially planned a September to Remember
return to the road, scheduled September performances were canceled without explanation. As the band prepared for their schedule, the Nashville concert served as a stop on their itinerary before mid-November.
Upcoming Tour Dates
The group’s itinerary remains sparse compared to their usual schedule. Following the weekend performances in Cincinnati and Nashville, the Beach Boys have limited public appearances on the books.

- November 11, 2026: Performance at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida
- November 13, 2026: Performance at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Bristol, Virginia
- May 8, 2027: A makeup show scheduled at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta
Meanwhile, Al Jardine, the only other surviving original member of the Beach Boys, continues touring separately with Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band, maintaining his own schedule with remaining tour dates listed on their official website.
