Jaguar revealed its new Type 01 in New York, a 5.24-meter-long, 1,030-horsepower electric grand tourer starting at 165,000 euros. Set for orders in early 2027, the flagship vehicle anchors the British brand’s radical pivot toward high-end luxury after years of tumbling sales.
The British luxury brand pulled the covers off its boldest machine in decades during an event on October 6, 2026, in New York. Managing Director Rawdon Glover positioned the vehicle as the essence of a new era for a manufacturer seeking absolute reinvention. The production car follows up on the contentious Type 00 concept shown in December 2024, maintaining much of that vehicle’s stark, polarizing geometry.
Tri-Motor Setup Delivers 1,030 Electric Horsepower
Beneath the long hood lies a tri-motor setup featuring one motor up front and two at the rear. The configuration churns out a combined 757 kW, equivalent to 1,030 electric horsepower, alongside 1,365 Nm of maximum torque. Power reaches all four wheels through an intelligent torque-vectoring system. Front-axle propulsion is handled by a 260-kW motor, while the twin rear motors each deliver 310 kW. The technical foundation relies entirely on the newly developed Jaguar Electric Architecture, bypassing shared corporate platforms.
Weighing in at roughly 2.5 metric tons, the grand tourer accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, with an intermediate sprint from 100 to 180 km/h taking 4.0 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 250 km/h. Jaguar estimates a WLTP range of up to 450 miles, equivalent to roughly 720 to 724 kilometers. Utilizing a 350-kW DC fast charger allows drivers to replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes under optimal conditions, translating to enough energy in 13 minutes to cover an additional 320 kilometers.
Type 01 Features Low Silhouette and 23-Inch Wheels
The Type 01 measures 5.23 to 5.24 meters in length, boasts a 50:50 weight distribution, and stands just 1.40 meters high. Its silhouette features a stretched hood and a cabin pushed far back toward the rear axle, creating an 89.8-centimeter distance between the door and the front wheel hub that executives describe as the luxury gap. Massive 23-inch alloy wheels come standard, complemented by 8.4-centimeter-high headlights composed of 20,000 LEDs and active aerodynamic elements including a triple-adjustable rear spoiler that help achieve a drag coefficient of 0.23.
The seating features built-in heating, cooling, and massage functions, supported by an immersive sound system combining sensory audio with a panoramic soundbar stretching across the entire width of the interior. Cargo capacity spans 450 liters and expands to 1,000 liters when the rear seats are folded flat.
Pricing Strategy and Market Positioning in Europe and Beyond
Market observers note that this pricing tier positions the model above high-performance electric sedans like the Porsche Taycan and Lotus Emeya, while staying below ultra-luxury entries like the Rolls-Royce Spectre.
The British brand has operated under foreign ownership since 1989—first within the Ford Motor Company and subsequently under Tata Motors since 2008. While development of the Type 01 took place entirely in England, manufacturing is anchored in Solihull near Birmingham, with electric motors and battery packs sourced from Wolverhampton and body panels produced in Halewood near Liverpool. Amid broader corporate adjustments that included cutting nearly 10 percent of the global workforce at Jaguar Land Rover, management targets an annual volume of around 10,000 units for the new grand tourer.

Jaguar Embraces Polarization Before 2027 Order Launch
Company leadership acknowledges that the radical departure from traditional Jaguar styling will alienate some observers, comparing the public reaction to the intense controversy sparked by the December 2024 unveiling of the Type 00 concept. Glover noted that the brand accepts public friction as an inevitable byproduct of creating enduring, culturally relevant designs, stating that the company deliberately embraces polarization to attract a new generation of buyers.
Official order books for the Type 01 open at the beginning of 2027, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for the second half of 2027. Alongside the standard specification and a launch edition, the manufacturer plans a strictly limited special edition restricted to just 60 units as the brand attempts its high-stakes return to the luxury segment.
