Miley Cyrus won two trophies at the 66th Grammy Awards. During her acceptance speech, she was thrilled to receive the award from Mariah Carey. The pop singer also explained the background to her song “Flowers”.

Taylor Swift was the main focus at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The pop singer won in the main album of the year category for her record “Midnights”. With her fourth Grammy for Best Album, she passed Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder – and is now the sole record holder.

The category, which was also one of the most important of the evening, is that of single of the year. The US singer Miley Cyrus won here. The 31-year-old won the trophy for her song “Flowers”. During the live broadcast she also performed the number one hit. While she danced on stage in a sparkling silver dress, Cyrus asked the audience with a winkto show more enthusiasm. Between the lines of the song she interspersed: “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?”

Swift overtook music legends Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder, who each won the Grammy for Best Album three times.
“’Flowers’ is my butterfly”
Shortly before her performance, the 31-year-old also accepted her second Grammy of the evening, the award for best pop solo performance. This was given to her by Mariah Carey, who is obviously a huge role model for Cyrus. Because in her acceptance speech she emphasized that she almost missed “this moment and the award” because of heavy traffic. That would have been fine, “but don’t miss Mariah Carey.” She last saw her “at the Hollywood Bowl, that was great.”

The singer also explained what exactly “Flowers” is all about. The song is about a little boy who just wanted a butterfly for his birthday. His parents then gave him a butterfly net. But the boy couldn’t catch a single one and finally sadly gave up. Just then, Cyrus said, a butterfly perched on the tip of his nose. Therefore the song “Flowers” is her butterfly.
The Grammys were awarded for the 66th time this year. Host and comedian Trevor Noah led the show and, with a view to the most promising presidential candidates Joe Biden (81) and Donald Trump (77), said that music’s biggest night is “still younger than America’s next president”. Around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy decide on the winners of the gramophones, which are awarded in 94 categories – even in the Best Audio Book category.
