Unanimously, with 195 votes, the parliament adopted in the first reading changes to the Law on Defense and Armed Forces. The bill is common to all political forces, BTA reported.

With it, from January 1, 2025, the remuneration of military personnel will increase by an average of 30% while maintaining the established differentiation between military ranks and positions. The creation of this mechanism will give predictability and security to military personnel and the necessary motivation to choose the military career, the deputies point out.

With the changes, the salaries of military personnel are equalized with those of employees under the Law on the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They introduce a new system for determining the basic monthly remuneration, which will be increased by a specific coefficient depending on the position held, it is recorded in the report of the Defense Commission. A reduction of the existing deficits in defense capabilities will also be achieved, especially in the direction of attracting and retaining human resources in the system; increasing the attractiveness of the military profession; improving the pay of defense personnel in order to be competitive in the labor market; an indexation mechanism that is socially acceptable and reflects the real level of pay in the country; predictability of defense spending in the State Budget Law for the next calendar year.

Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov stated from the rostrum of the National Assembly that the legal binding of the levels of the lowest remuneration of military personnel to the average salary will lead to competitiveness in the labor market and provision of the armed forces with highly motivated personnel.
