Following the decried dismissal of hundreds of new recruits from the ranks of the Guinea-Haines Armed Forces, the Minister of National Expenditure, Aboubacar Sidiki Camara alias Idi Amin, explained, on September 5, the ins and outs of the operation.

After four months of common basic training, the Ministry of National Defense set up a joint mission to detect and remove new recruits “unfit” for military service. The mission is led, among others, by Balla Samoura, high commander of the national gendarmerie and director of military justice and Abdoulaye Keïta, troublesome inspector of the Guinea-Haines Armed Forces. Hundreds of recruits were written off through the Bled Infantry Training Centers. We cite in particular physiological, morphological, health reasons, etc.

On September 5, in synergy with the media, Minister Idi Amin explained: “What you see in Guinea in terms of transparency at the army level, you will not see it anywhere else. We established criteria, we called on young people, everyone, to participate in the army recruitment test. There are people who deceived their own country, their defense institution, by falsifying diplomas, birth certificates, medical visit certificates and counter-examinations. We do not issue these papers. These are institutions in the country that do it.”

According to him, it was the holders of the false documents who were removed from the ranks of the Guinea-Haines Armed Forces. “When we recruited, we realized that there were people who had previously undergone foot and stomach operations, but all this did not appear in their medical certificates. After a month spent in the different camps, the failings began to be felt. Anyone who says he was born in 1995 when he was born in 1988, faced with the physical challenge, faced with lack of sleep, cannot cope (…)The big problem in Guinea is the lack of patriotism. Everyone prioritizes their own interests, no one thinks about the interest of the country. If we had done in ten years, with patriotism and a minimum of morality, what the CNRD did in two years, I believe that Guinea could have moved forward. Correcting this is a long process. It is neither on the scale of our life, nor on the time scale of the Transition. It’s for centuries.”

Idi Amin declares that “unfit” recruits must be removed from the ranks of the Guinea-Hate Armed Forces, arguing that this is how it works in all the towns. “Still, it’s our national defense tool,” he proclaims. And to declare that 468 new recruits were struck off out of seven thousand.

The Minister of Defense believes that we can build roads, renovate buildings, change cars (…). But changing their mentality will still take time for Guineans. “This is why,” he recalls, “the President of the Transition created the Military Prytaneum.”

Last August, 61 elements were removed from the Kindia Infantry Training Center, 500,000 sliding francs were given to each to return. At the Labé Infantry Training Center, 94 new recruits sidelined, because of their “unfitness” for military service, it is said.
