Madurai: Minister Murthy flagged off the Palamedu jallikattu competition in Madurai district.

The first jallikattu competition of the district started on Sunday in Avaniapuram, Madurai on the occasion of Pongal festival.

Vijay, a cowherd from Jaihindpuram who tamed 28 bulls, was presented with a car on behalf of Chief Minister Stalin. 737 bulls were released in this competition.

In this case, the famous Palamedu started on Monday on the occasion of Pongal festival.

First, District Collector Anish Shekhar read the pledge for the cowherds who participated in the jallikattu competition and the cowherds took the oath.

Following this, Minister Murthy flagged off the jallikattu competition. The bulls are engaged in taming the bulls that are raging through the stream.

Sports Minister Udayanidhi Stalin awarded a car to the best cowherd and two wheelers to the best bull.

Also, many prizes like gold, silver coins, anda, bicycle bureau, bridge, TV and other household appliances are going to be given.

There will be a total of 9 rounds in which 25 players will participate in each round.

Around 800 bulls and 335 cowherds competed in the Palamedu jallikattu competition.

16 thousand policemen are engaged in security work.
