Minister of Education Visits Innovative Summer Camp for Children in Programming and Digital Creation

Stockholm, 3 July 2023 – Today, the Minister of Education, Mats Persson, paid a visit to a day camp organized by Hello World! and the House of Science, which aims to educate and inspire children in the field of programming and digital creation. The camp, called “Hello STEM,” is a free summer course catered to children between the ages of 10-14 and focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with special emphasis on programming and digital creation.

The Minister’s visit took place at the House of Science, located on Roslagstullsbacken 29 in Stockholm. Starting from 10.30 a.m. and lasting until noon, the Minister had the opportunity to engage with the young participants and witness their creativity and skills firsthand.

During the visit, Persson was first taken to the Space Studio, where the children were working on projects related to the solar system and the planets. They were tasked with creating their own games in Scratch, a block-based programming language. The games were centered around a space theme, allowing the children to explore their imagination while honing their programming skills.

The Minister also visited the 3D studio, where the campers were immersed in designing and creating their own virtual rooms. This hands-on experience allowed them to unleash their creativity and understanding of digital design.

The visit concluded with a fruitful conversation between the Minister and the camp organizers. The discussion revolved around finding ways to encourage more children and young people to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects. Persson expressed his support for initiatives such as Hello STEM and emphasized the importance of equipping young minds with relevant skills in the digital age.

Hello STEM provides an excellent platform for children to explore the exciting world of programming and digital creation. By offering engaging and educational activities, the camp aims to ignite a passion for STEM subjects among young participants. The Minister’s visit further highlights the significance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between education and future employability.

As the day camp continues to inspire young minds, the hope is that more children and young people will be encouraged to pursue careers in STEM fields and contribute to the future of technology and innovation.
